(8/10) It is a amzing how many bands are coming from Gothenburg in those days. Most of them with great albums - regardless if we talk about death metal, heavy metal or hardrock. This time it is about pure heavy metal from the second biggest city of Sweden. The band is called Air Raid. Formed in 2009 by Andreas Johansson and Johan Karlsson the band delivered a few days ago their newest LP called "Point of impact" that follows the 2012 album "Night of the axe". And I must say that their songs have an impact.
Air Raid plays 80's inspired pure metal that sits somewhere between Iron Maiden, Judas Priest and sometimes also Manowar in the old days. The music as well as the production are in a very positive way kept oldschool. Actually even the running time of the album is with 35 minutes very 'oldschool'. Yes, true, a ninth or tenth songs could have been good. However, at least none of the eight tracks on the album is a filler. They're all good.
Regardless if you listen to the Maiden-based "Victim of the night" or the fast closer "We got the force" - all of the songs are well done and are highly entertaining. Screaming metal guitars and solos go hand in hand with great vocals of Arthur Andersson. Together with the founding guitarists he is actually a real highlight to listen to. Andersson's voice is a real metal siren. He definitely grades-up the songs.
Air Raid released with "Point of impact" an album that stands out. It brings back a good old sound that still feels fresh and removed from dust. They might never reach the big masses with their music, but I guess this isn't their intention anyhow. Their authentic metal is a pleasure for each metal fan that calls bands like the mentioned ones to their faves. Something I can recommend.
