(8/10) I guess it’s not that easy for a guy like Udo Dirkschneider, who has done and experienced already a lot in his career, to come up with something really new. He had his very successful times with Accept and since many many years he is a constant metal factor with U.D.O..

The man, dressed in camouflage, also released many live record with U.D.O.; so why releasing another standard live disc? I'm not good in mind reading but this could have been the thought of Udo Dirkschneider too. So, time for something new.
U.D.O. teamed-up with the Marinemusikcorps Nordsee (German Navy Orchestra) and both played a show together. The unique event took place in February 2014 in the Tuttlinger Stadthalle.

There are quite some great things to report from this album. First of all it is the songs. The show contained not only recent tracks from U.D.O.. The guys went also back in their own discography and added classics like „Faceless world“ and „Animal instinct“ to the setlist. Great to hear those older U.D.O. highlights in the new arranged way. This brings me to the second positive thing. The new arranged tracks sound great. The combination of classic and metal doesn’t feel forced. On the contrary, each of the two styles supports each other which makes the tracks to very exciting ones.

And what I like as well is the fact that not only U.D.O. tracks have been played. The intro is coming from the German movie „Das Boot“ and the same goes for the first song. Next to this unusual number also „In the hall of the mountain king“ was performed.
You want more? Here it is. Doro Pesch joined Udo Dirkschneider for „Dancing with an angel“ which became a beautiful verion of the tune and „Trainride in Russia“ gets, with the added accordion, a real Russian expression. Last but not least we have „Cut it out“ that was transferred into a swinging big band version that really makes fun.

„Navy metal night is an outstanding live album from U.D.O. that is far more than a 'collectors item' only. This is a perfect symbiosis between metal and classic.

Last but not least, each of you joining the Wacken Open Air this year has the chance to see this show live. U.D.O. will perform on the famous metal festival a similar show; this time in cooperation with the German Federal Armed Forces Orchestra.
