(8/10) German melodic metal that comes from Sweden - that's Toxicrose. You haven't heard about the band before? OK, here are some facts. Andy, Tom, Goran and Michael started in 2010 and the guys are from Stockholm, Sweden. The four-piece plays power metal that reminds of Helloween, Gamma Ray and Iron Savior.

Although the guys are already playing together as a band since 6 years, "Total Tranquility" is the debut and it's a pretty good one. It seems like it was worth waiting with this release since all the tracks are loaded with a lot of power, crunchy guitars and a pushing rhythm section.

A quite heavy riff marks the beginning of the opener "World of Confusion" and a steady drum beat shows a clear direction, which is straight forward. This song is a pure headbanger that, with its sing-along chorus, will for sure be the highlight of a Toxicrose live show.

You can question if Toxicrose's sound has enough unique features to stick out from the grey mass. Maybe not, but songs like "Sinner" and the faster "Reckless Society" are well-crafted melodic rockers that are very entertaining. This album isn't serving your intellectual demands. "Total Tranquility" is the opposite of what the title tells you. It's a cool melodic metal album with furious guitars and a good groove. This album is for your heart and not for your brain.

All in all I must say that this longplayer shows a band with potential for more, considering that it's the debut. However, something that should be changed by the band are the carnival-like costumes they are wearing. These guys don't need such a gimmick. The music is strong enough and will be more threatened than supported by this weird stage outfit.
