(7/10) VEGA's new album "Who We Are" is already number four in the band's history and the guys focus again on melodic rock. Their sound is rooted in the 80's when bands like Def Leppard celebrated their biggest success. Vega takes this inspiration, writes own songs and enriches the package with full sounding production.
The result might not be rocket science, but in the end this record makes a lot of fun. "Explode", as being the opener, kicks in with rocking guitars, followed by keyboards that made me doubt for a second. But I can reassure you that the balance between guitars and keyboards is done very well, for this song but also when it comes to the entire album. None of the songs is a chumming up mainstream number with an uninspired expression. Even quiet songs like "Nothing is Forever" live up to a certain quality standard.
But the majority of songs is rocking very well. Tom Martin's guitars are very much in the forefront on tracks like "We Got It All" and "White Flag", but also grooving rock songs like "Ignite" keeps the flame of rock burning.
Vega's new album "Who We Are" states clearly who these guys are. Experienced and creative hardrock musicians that share a common passion of writing well-crafted songs with a solid groove and good melodies.
Vega will support Magnum on the UK dates, a package that fits very well and something you shouldn't miss.
