(8/10) Maybe the days when Night Ranger filled the very big venues are over, but this doesn't mean that the relevance of the band became less over the last years; quite the opposite. Jack Blades, Brad Gillis, Kelly Keagy, Eric Levy and Keri Kelly can look back on a 35 years lasting career that career that included masterpieces such as "Sister Christian", the first song I heard from the guys from San Francisco.

Sometimes live records are like mirrors in a black room - nobody needs them. In this specific case we have another live recording of a band that provided quite some live albums in the past and there might be even more in the future. However, could there be a better way to celebrate a 35 years anniversary than playing a great show in Chicago that's been recorded and released for fans all over the worls. I guess not. That's why this longplayer makes a lot of sense.

And since it was an anniversary concert the tracklist covers also all the milestone of Night Ranger. There are the very early pearls like "Penny" and the mighty "Night Ranger", "Big Life" is present with "The Secret of My Success" and also the latest studio album couldn't be missed. "High Road", the title track, stands for the current Night Ranger, showing that the band still has developed their unique sound that they tuned over time while not forgetting about their roots. And if all this wouldn't be enough Night Ranger gave a preview into the future with a new song they played that night. It's called "Day and Night", it's from the upcoming studio album and if this song is representative for the entire album I think we can expect another rocking disc from the California-based guys.

"35 Years and a Night in Chicago" is a well done live release that shows clearly why this band belongs to the big players in melodic hardrock. Thumbs Up.
