(8/10) ‘Hate’ is an emotion that's part of the human nature and is existing from time immemorial. This doesn’t go for the band that named themselves Hate even though the guys have already a 26 year history in metal. Actually they are as long in business as Polish black metal flagship Behemoth in whose shadow the quartet stood for many years.
Hate can look back on nine full-length longplayers, each of them a blood-curdling blackened death metal release. Being overshadowed by the mighty Behemoth for a longer time, Hate started recently to gain a stronger position in the fields of extreme metal. The guys get more and more attention and it's discs like their newest strike “Tremendum” that are one asset for this rising popularity.
Maybe ‘popularity’ isn’t the best word to describe what this longplayer is about. Hate will never reach the mainstream and they also don’t want to go there. The music of this four-piece band is aiming for fans of dark and hellish metal that comes right out of the abyss.
“Tremendum” features nine songs, giving a running time of 45 minutes. In these three quarters of an hour the band takes the listener on an infernal journey through the netherworld. What distinguishes this longplayer from many other records in this genre is the level of diversification. Of course, Hate will be never a prog metal band, but they are including much more in their songs than just doing things with full blast according to the book. Their tenth album is actually a quite entertaining piece of music that combines a brutal harshness with a passion for details in song and sound.
It’s hard to pick and choose some tracks for going more into depth. This has to do with all of them being highly exciting and very well-crafted. Deep growls, immense riffs and bludgeoning drumming are trademarks that are weaved into each of the nine tracks on “Tremedum”, an album that opens the gates also for non-black metal fans. Horns up for a band that finally gets the recognition they deserve.
