(8/10) There isn’t that many bands from the Canadian West coast with a more global level of awareness. Unleash The Archers is such a band, hailing from British Columbia, metal fans from not only Canada are familiar with.
The roots of the power metal outfit go back to 2007 with a debut, “Behold the Devastation”, that saw the light of day in 2009. Unleash The Archers could add more strength to their bow after signing a contact with Austrian label Napalm Records., a deal that helped them to make the band also more present in Europe. “Time Stands Still” was the first longplayer for the new label and awareness was rising. After having had this longplayer acting as a kind of trailblazer, the newest album “Apex” should help strengthening the band’s position … and I guess it does.
Unleash The Archers fires ten metallic arrows towards Europe. The first one is entitled "Awakening" and is a seven minutes anthem that begins with some dark samples. This scenario doesn't last for too long since the track shifts towards a powerful metal track within no time. Worth a note are the great hooks and the well-done vocals of singer Brittney Slayes, something that goes for the entire album. Unleash The Archer doesn't discover unknown territory with "Apex". However, they five-piece band from Vancouver does a very good job in a familiar area and songs like the "Cleanse the Bloodlines" with its big melodies, but also the more epic grooving "False Walls" are for sure good stuff.
"Apex" is not about developing metal to a next level or giving it another twist. The ingredients are well known and Unleash The Archer combines them to a tasty metal dish - a metallic ten course feast for fans of melodic power metal.
